During the cold and snowy winter months before these events take place the staff of the MNLMRA are hard at work creating and distributing promotional materials and attending Home Improvement, ATV and C.&V.B. trade shows to help promote the sport of Lawn Mower Racing. Once a prospective host venue starts the process of negotiating an event there are many considerations to be dealt with.
Where ? Most often our events are held in a large parking lot or empty field like setting. There are many sites that can be used for lawn mower racing as long as they are as smooth and flat as possible. Remember USLMRA/MNLMRA sanctioned events are held only on dirt or grass not cement or asphalt.
When? Usually we start racing sometime early after noon depending on how many racers we have in each class. This gives us time to get everyone registered, thru technical inspection, hold the drivers meeting and get some practice laps in . Once that is all done the shows can last up to 2 hr to get all the racing in.
Why? Because we can !! Lawn Mower Racing is purely for fun. The only reward lawn mower racers get for their efforts are trophies and of course bragging rights until the next event.
How? Usually as part of the setup for these events the surface is watered and packed with some sort of vibratory or heavy roller. This process is repeated throughout the event as needed. Then the course is out lined in hay bales. Usually a kidney bean shape or an oval is used but tracks can be as complicated or simple as desired as long as they are safe.
Insurance? Yup we have it. One of the biggest advantages of hosting a MNLMRA/USLMRA sanctioned race is the up to 1 million dollars in insurance that WE provide.
